Chongwe River Camp is situated on the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers. This luxury bush camp is a superb family owned and run business dedicated not only to providing your dream safari experience but also hospitality that can only be found in a home. The camp is situated in a wilderness area; elephant and other wild animals are more numerous than people there are no fences and the animals have complete right of way. The accommodation is in well-appointed Mulati tents under thatch, with a luxury open air bathrooms en suite. All the tented cottages are surrounded by lawns and have fabulous views over the river and beyond. There is a central shaded messing area, again with views over the river and west to view the sunsets. The camp cooks prepare imaginative and wholesome dishes and the whole camp has a relaxed and enormously friendly atmosphere. This is a perfect spot well away from the tourist routes. The Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area of 4092 square kilometres, but most of the game is concentrated on the valley floor. The area is renown for superb canoeing safaris being the most unobtrusive way to encounter big game or you can also view game from a 4x4 open safari vehicle, on foot or from a motorboat. Both day and night drives are available. Chongwe also specialises in walking safaris, affording time to learn about the not so obvious secrets of the bush. The Zambezi is home to one of the world's premiere game fish, the Tiger which can grow up to 12 kg and is a superb fighter. The lodge operates a strict catch and release policy. There are plenty of bream and chessa to eat or use as bait, as well as many varieties of catfish.
