Chikoko Camp is situated in the Luangwa Valley in Eastern Zambia. The Luangwa National Park is a wilderness area of great natural beauty teeming with big game. It was here that David Livingstone made his famous statement and little has changed since then. All luggage and supplies are portered into the camp as there are no roads... a true wilderness.
The accommodation is built of reed and natural materials with canvas roofs. The power is supplied by solar panels and each chalet has an en-suite shower and loo. There are splendid views with plenty of game in the area. The camps are hosted, relaxed and friendly with a full complement of bush chef and charming camp staff.
The principal activity is guided walking. The terrain is varied and walks are dependent on the game concentrations in the wild. This remote park is renowned for its considerable wildlife which include large populations of hippo, crocodile, puku, elephant, lion and leopard. Wild dog and rhino are also seen. First class guiding with an experienced walking guide and an armed game scout. Access is by a 2 hour dirt road transfer to the river crossing in a dugout canoe, followed by a 15 minute walk to the camp. You can also fly from Mfuwe to Lukuzi airstrip with a transfer and 40 minute walk to camp. This is undoubtedly one of our favourite rustic style camps in Africa. The simple camp and proper walking safaris have a wonderfully authentic feel to them, and so they should for they are the real thing. In addition the guiding is tops, the environment raw and you will see and experience events that will remain with you for ever. Chikoko combines very well with it's big sister Tafika Camp on the Luangwa River. | Style | Rustic, adventurous, relaxed and remote. | | Air/Con | No | | Dining | Full board delicious bush cooking | | Children | Children of 12 years and older are welcome. | | No. of Bedrooms | 3 double reeded chalets | | Activities | Fully guided walking safaris, game watching, excellent birding, green season boating and canoeing, tribal village visits and relaxing in a real wilderness. | | Seasonal opening | From 01 June to 31 October | | Price Range | From £310 per person sharing pppn. |
