Situated in remote Katavi National Park in western Tanzania. This real bush camp sits under a canopy of acacia and tamarind trees overlooking the wide Chada floodplain. There are no other camps, no mini buses and no other tourists in a million acres of National Park. This park is for the wildlife connoisseur, to see sable and roan antelope and puku. For the traveller with a sense of adventure who thinks the African bush can yield no more surprises. No movements are restricted, you can follow any game, anywhere for as long as you like and go as far as the eye can see. The game viewing is outstanding with hippos in their hundreds grazing the river banks, and so many crocodile they are too numerous to hide. Elephants and huge herds of Cape buffalo as well as all the predators waiting in the shadows.
Accommodation is in 6 traditional style safari tents, set amongst huge trees overlooking the plains. All the tents have a private verandah with safari chairs for relaxing and watching the game go by. The large comfortable beds have wonderfully opulent bed spreads, with rugs on the floor and all is lit by solar powered lamps. There is a dressing table with mirror as well as luggage rack and shelving for your clothes. Wash stands with pitchers of hot and cold water are set in front of each tent. The shower and loo are behind the tent and hot water is available at all times of the day for a wonderful safari shower.
The mess tent is situated overlooking the plains, it is open front and back with a lovely lining and very smart teak tables and chairs. There are stuffed book shelves with excellent reading, maps and drawings. A telescope stands waiting to be used. Lovely glass, crockery and tableware are used for all meals. The food is excellent and imaginative considering everything has to be brought in by air. There are bush breakfasts cooked over the open fire and picnic lunches with canvas tarpaulins laid out in the shade with huge cushions to lounge on whilst sipping a cool beer. Excellent 4 x 4 landrovers with bucket seats are used for game drives, covering areas of plains, marsh woodlands and rivers.
This camp combines well with Greystoke Mahale, for chimp tracking and rain forests.
