Literally metres from the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cross Lodge is near to the biggest Cape Fur Seal colony on the planet, (but well out of the "smell" zone), and 118km north of Swakopmund. The Lodge is located on the only privately owned beach-front land in the Skeleton National Park. The building style is a mix of Cape Dutch and west-coast fishing village, with an enormous amount of natural light harnessed by the fully-glassed frontage. FACILITIES Food is of high standard, mainly homely and substantial and based on a blend of local and South African cuisine. The dining and lounge area is classically appointed with fireplaces to ensure a warm and cozy atmosphere. From there you can walk out onto an open deck and pristine beach with the break water level about 200m away. The cocktail bar and private cellar ensures the finest selection of wines and spirits. The Lodge has a curio shop.
| No. of Bedrooms | Eight en suite rooms, all at first floor upper deck level, with superb views to the west across the bay. Each room has a private balcony and is decorated in a west coast nautical style. Two of the bedrooms are inter-connecting to create a family suite if required. | | Activities | Activities obviously center around the presence of the seals, and visitors can self-drive or even walk to the colony. Guided tours to the colony can also be organized. There are also lichen fields and a unique desert flora close by. Attention to detail will reveal the "Little 5" (or more!) with countless reptiles, insects, scavengers and carnivores. The common black-backed jackal is seen frequently whilst brown hyena can be seen at night. Surf fishing, wave boarding, kiting, and short safaris into the Tsiseb Conservancy and the Brandberg Mountain are also available. |
