Bamurru Plains is an exclusive safari camp built on the edge of the Mary River floodplain only a short distance from Kakadu National Park in the Top End of Australia.  Luxurious accommodation in nine spacious and cool safari bungalows, each with an en suite bathroom and a private deck overlooking the surrounding wilderness. The central lounge area is the perfect place to relax, there is a well stocked library offering a collection of reference books.  Bamurru’s chef prepares delicious meals which are shared around a communal table with your fellow travellers, hosts and guides. Lunch is often served on the deck, perhaps a BBQ, cooked as you refresh yourself in the swimming pool. This area is known for its wildlife and wallabies, dingos, brumbies, buffalo and goannas all make regular appearances, however it is the prolific birdlife that makes this area a unique nature attraction. A typical day at Bamurru may begin with an early morning coffee and muffin being delivered to your room as the sun rises. Climb aboard the airboats for an excursion across the flood plains, spotting crocodiles and startling the Magpie Geese into flight. Stopping in a quiet lagoon, shaded by paperbark trees and surrounded by lilies enjoy morning tea before returning to camp as the sun heats the day. Now there is time for a siesta, a swim, to read a book or quiz your guide for more information on this remarkable place. Lunch is followed by an afternoon activity, perhaps a guided walk or a gentle cruise down the Sampan River, spotting crocodiles sunning themselves on the mud flats. Return to the camp in the evening and share dinner with your fellow travellers, guides and hosts. FACILITIES Style Luxury Safari Camp Dining All meals and drinks from the bar are included at Bamurru Plains.  The chef prepares innovative cuisine that is peppered with local ingredients – bush spices, crocodile, kangaroo, tropical fruit etc.  Early morning tea or coffee and a light breakfast are served before the morning activity & return to the camp for brunch.  Evening 3 course dinner around large dining table with other guests, hosted by guides and camp crew.  Food is based on contemporary Australian cuisine with a hint of native produce.   A select open bar offers a good selection of Australian wines, beers, selected spirits and soft drinks. Children Children 12 years and over are accepted and children aged 7 to 11 years are welcome if the camp is booked exclusively.  Children aged under 7 are welcome in camp if it is booked exclusively and a nanny must be arranged.  However, there is flexibility at times, so please check if you have interested family groups Accommodation A style of accommodation more akin to some of the safari camps in Africa, Bamurru Plains’ attraction lies in the birdlife and wildlife of the surrounding floodplains and savannah woodland. Nine safari bungalows with en suite bathrooms, overhead fans, air-conditioning is available in some rooms and can be requested (there is an additional charge to discourage the use of air-conditioning).  Bamurru Plains is a bush camp and so does not have all the amenities of a traditional five star hotel such as in-room telephones, internet, mini-bars and televisions . Location Bamurru Plains is a 20 minute charter flight from Darwin, plus 20 minute road transfer to the camp from the airstrip.  Or alternatively, 3 hours self drive (4WD required) from Darwin.  Bamurru to Jabiru in Kakadu is 20 mins by charter flight. Bamurru Plains is located on Swim Creek Station, a 303 sq km coastal buffalo pastoral property near Point Stuart in the Mary River Region. The property encompasses a variety of habitat including vast river frontage, coastal floodplains, savannah woodland, and paperbark swamps. The station is 10 kms from Kakadu National Park’s western boundary (100kms from Jabiru in Kakadu) and just over 100 kms east of Darwin.
