International connections to Darwin, Australia’s northernmost city, settled in tropical seclusion on the Arafura Sea. Spend an evening in the company of a prominent marine conservationist learning about the coral reefs of the northern coast, while enjoying an excellent seafood dinner. Accommodation is at the Carlton Hotel.

From Darwin it is only a short hop (by plane) to some of Australia’s most spectacular wilderness, Arnhemland. Here the monsoon season brings water and a profusion of bird and wild life to the coastal estuaries and wetlands at the top of the Northern Territory. The sandstone rocks of Arnhemland provide not only a magnificent nature spectacle but one of the greatest art galleries in the world – aboriginal art, some of it 60,000 years old, appears as clear as though the artists had meticulously recorded their visions only yesterday.

In the red light of dusk, refresh yourself in the purest of freshwater creeks, in the shade of the eucalypts, as kingfishers and bee-eaters skim the water next to you collecting their evening meal. Stay for 2 nights at Davidson’s Camp at Mt.Borradaile in the basic comforts of a tented camp, with excellent food, including freshly caught barramundi on the dining table. The first rays of dawn bring a chorus of noise from the resident kookaburras and kites, the most natural of wake up calls in the Australian bush.

We then take you to the frontier of Australian wilderness, the Kimberley, a region of majestic grandeur, large outback cattle stations and very few people. On the edge of the Kimberley escarpment spend 3 nights on one of Australia’s most remote cattle stations, Bullo River, an area of half a million acres, where you see the country at its most rugged, the red sandstone gorges, the crocodile infested rivers that snake in from the coast, undiscovered caves with ancient art, mustering cattle by helicopter or spending time with aboriginals in their community and learning of their culture and life.

You then take a private flight over some of the world’s most deserted and spectacular coastline, to a spot far away on the edge of this island continent, where you will be staying with Bruce Ellison at the Bush Camp, Faraway Bay for 3 nights. Bruce has made his home in one of the most remote parts of Australia and there are few places in the world where you will see mighty inland rivers come crashing out from the interior of a continent and into the sea below as towering waterfalls – this is one of them.

Your experience of the Kimberley ends in Broome, the town made famous by its pearling industry and as one of Australia’s finest birding locations on Roebuck Bay. Staying for 2 nights in Lord McAlpine’s former residence, McAlpine House, take in Broome’s tropical charm with a local expert to show you the natural wonders of this remote section of Australia’s north-west coast.

Return to Darwin for international connections home. Why not consider an addon to Sydney South Australia wine lands or Tasmania, let us know and we can make some suitable suggestions.

This is a suggested itinerary only and is entirely flexible. Arrangements can be tailored to your exact requirements.
