There are some places in Africa that just "do it" for us and this is one of them.
Now available on a per person per night basis. ( Please note the lodge is no longer available on an exclusive basis unless you take the whole lodge for a minimum of 3 nights). Ant's Hill is the sister lodge to Ant's Nest and is likewise situated in the malaria-free Waterberg region of South Africa's Northern Province about 3 drive hours north of Johannesburg. The private game farm/reserve contains diverse topography and vegetation, ranging from open plains to beautiful mountain areas which sustains a wide variety of game including white rhino, buffalo, eland, leopard, giraffe, zebra, kudu, wildebeest, sable, blesbok, bat eared fox, aardwolf, aardvark, jackal, baboon, brown hyena, civet, and genet etc. In addition to guided 4x4 game drives, the reserve offers a safe and secluded environment to allow guests of all ages to enjoy bush walks, riding safaris (excellent horses) and cycling. Ant’s Hill also provides special activities for children and teenagers who enjoy getting involved in the running of a game reserve. Children are welcome to join parents on all activities available or can be taken out separately. Toys and games are available and the large gardens surrounding the lodge create an exciting area for them to let off steam. Special food and meal times can be arranged and full child minding facilities are also available. It's all very easy and family friendly. Ant’s Hill is built on the edge of a gorge next to a waterfall and offers wonderful views across the valley to the Waterberg Ranges. There are 5 bush cottages, two honeymoon cottages situated well away from the main lodge, and a further family cottage sleeping 4/5, plus a further two cottages in the gardens. In the main lodge there is a luxurious double bedroom with a private verandah. All the rooms are exceptionally comfortable and "civilised" with draped seven foot wide four-poster beds and excellent bathrooms offering sunken baths and waterfall showers. The central buildings have spacious sitting rooms to relax in, vast folding doors opening for a cooling breeze, exotic furniture and brightly coloured African fabrics and a small shop. The lodge caters for a maximum of 12 guests.

Sumptuous home cooking and fine wines are served, and dining is outside, whenever possible under shady trees. Massage and relaxation treatments are available and there is an infinity plunge pool which cascades over the lip of the gorge. We recommend 3/6 nights stays. Ant's combines well with a beach holiday in in Kwazulu Natal, Mozambique, sailing on Lake Malawi or some time in Mauritius.
