Amanwella is a brand new all-suite resort situated amidst a mature coconut grove fronting a crescent shaped beach close to the village of Tangalle on the south coast of Sri Lanka. Modern architectural elements have been combined with the use of traditional materials to create a stylish retreat in the south coast's rugged terrain. Close to the sea in the coconut grove are the public areas, comprising airy, open sided pavilions surrounded by wooden terraces. Here is the infinity swimming pool and sun deck as well as a lounge and bar, a library and the resort's restaurant. Accommodation is in 30 suites, all of similar size and design. Most are set on the hillside above the beach and have open sides to let in cooling sea breezes.

The suites consist of a private courtyard with plunge pool and a banquette for lounging and dining. Timber sliding doors and panels reveal the combined sleeping and living room with a king-size bed, writing desk, armchair with foot-stool and a credenza containing a personal bar with refreshments. Sliding screens divide this area from the open-plan bathroom featuring a freestanding bathtub, twin vanities, dressing area, shower and toilet. Access to a spacious terrace, again furnished for lounging and dining, is once more via sliding doors from the living areas and the bathroom.
Further suites are situated at a lower level, near the beach. On both levels, there are some suites grouped around a communal terrace, which are ideal for families or friends travelling together. A small vehicle is available for transport between the various levels of the resort. All suites have good views of the beach, the coconut grove and the sea and are very comfortable. They are decorated in a simple, modern style with uncluttered lines and muted, sandy tones that reflect the beach setting.
As well as an abundance of swimming and sun bathing opportunities, the resort offers Spa menus including facials, massages and body treatments. Snorkelling from the beach is also possible during the dry season and complimentary snorkelling equipment is available. During the summer months large waves make swimming conditions less favourable. Village and nature walks are also available from the resort. Further afield, tours and excursions are possible to cultural sites or National Parks within easy driving distance.| Style | Modern stylish beach resort | | Air/Con | No, but ceiling fans throughout | | Dining | Yes, snacks and light meals on terraces and in lounges.
