Built a hundred years ago, Altes Landhaus served as rectory to the local church from the 1950s. The homestead’s magnificent gardens are evidence of a climate which boasts 360 sunshine days a year: an abundance of red and white rose blooms, soft lilac Jacaranda blossoms and old, shady trees frame a plush expanse of well-tended lawns. Summer hues, fragrant scents and the dry, hot Karoo air provide an intoxicating backdrop for the clear turquoise waters of the salt-water swimming pool, tucked away in a tranquil corner of the garden, and featuring a friendly pool bar. A generous farm or continental breakfast, enjoyed on the outdoor patio, begins the day’s pleasures at Altes Landhaus. Dinner is available on request and includes a choice of the finest local specialities: ostrich meat, fresh fish, succulent Karoo lamb or fresh farm chicken – lovingly prepared and cooked to perfection.
